I typically only hand-wash my Cali, either at home with a power washer or in a DIY bay. This winter has been particularly harsh with temps hovering around -2C and lots of road salt. So I'm contemplating taking the awning off to go through an automat. But that feels like a lot of work.

What do other folks do?

I would also be worried about the pop top!

I do it the same as you with a DIY bay. In winter I just do a quick power spray to get the worst of the salt off with out any attempt at perfection. Once the road salt is no longer a problem later in the year I'll give it a proper wash, but still in a DIY bay.
My dealer would put it through their automatic facility when I'm there for service but I specifically ask them not to because of my solar panels.

The problem is that the bays around me are closed for the winter and my hose is frozen

So the decision is made for you. No washing until the weather warms up.
A. The car metal work is well protected.
B. You need salt, water and warmth for corrosion. If the water is frozen - no problem. Just keep the lights and windows clear.
