Current Model Audio Head Units with Reverse Sensor Integration

Hello All,

Whilst this is a question that has been asked before, I haven't found a post on it since around 2019. So I hope to get some more up to date advice.

I am planning to upgrade the stereo on the T5.1 California that I am picking up next week. It has the standard AM/FM/CD stereo in presently. I want to upgrade to something with Carplay that will also show the reversing sensor and aircon information as well.

I have noted some older models of Kenwood and Pioneer that do it. But do people on here know of any other current models that have this functionality? Or just a list of known models that definitely do would be great.

Hello Johneboy,

we had the same problem in getting no updates for the RNS510 (VW 5.2 California comfortline, delivery: Jan 2012)

We solved all our problems this year - now having e.g. Apple Car Play, Spotify .... on board - by installing an Alpine iLX-F905T6 (has a 9" Display, 11" my be an option), featuring fully rear camera-Integration (not cheap!), all steering wheel functions, having DAB+ on board (extra small window antenna). We switched the power supply to the leasure batteries (which are loaded by our solar system). The system is turned on by the ignition or an extra switch.
Since a large part of the cladding had 2b dismounted we added a new USB-C power supply (working on the leasure batt. too), deliveing 100W on UCB-C PD (not included in the 2k Euro) -> PEKAWAY (2 outlet-Vesion!)
All the work was done by a lokal aftersales specialists (Hannover, Germany), installing every day one of these systems in campers/ VW-Vans. Time for mounting: about 7 hrs.
They work only with Alpine systems (Kenwood my by an alternative, too.)
Overall costs about 2k Euro.
Further Option: Match M 5.4 DSP soundprocessor (extra 700 Euro), integration our existing sub-woofer.

Alpine Halo 9 looks really good in a T5/T6 dash, Alpine do a canbus adaptor which uses the VW microphone, the MFD in dash (if fitted), the steering wheel controls and the aircon controls (if dual zone). I got the truck/motorhome version as it also has Park4night and western Europe maps on HDD in unit so not reliant on data signal for maps/directions. DAB/FM radio and USB sound, HDMI for DVD playback and compatible with up to four cameras, I just use reversing camera input at present.

Thanks for the Alpine suggestions. They are a bit over my budget. I was hoping there would be something out there for under £400 (pre-owned would be fine).

I have a very nice Kenwood with a fascia that will suit your T5.1, I’ve just removed it. Fully working.

Has wireless CarPlay and in built Nav too.
