Van dilemma

Spent yesterday at the show.

The Crafter/Ducato/Tranny size game seems to have moved on big time.

Plenty of “rear lounge” units on offer.
Nice interior trim options.

Loved the Jöbl
Indeed. Made in Britain, surprisingly, given the name.

Hi
There is some good suggestions made
Above all review not only the storage for bikes diving equipment etc etc. create a small spreadsheet and add in the weights. Even a T6 (3200gross) can be close to max weight with 2 people 2 bikes water tank full , twin gas bottles etc.
when we were in Switzerland this summer we got stopped and we were underweight. Just. Nicely calculated as I told my wife. But talking to the enforcement people ( bit like VOSA ) 9 out of 10 vans they stop are overweight . Fines issued and can’t drive off until within weight limit !
Good luck -

Not a huge problem.
The wife loves the Swiss rail network….

So update on our van dilemma.... well we have a different dilemma now...

We've gone for a Hymer MLT-580 Crosstrail

ETA sometime June / July.

It was an agonising decision time over Christmas, should we go based panel van or a semi-integrated MH ? in the end it was the interior space of the MLT which did it for us, we spent so much time in Dizzy last year and expect the same (if not more going forward) we just wanted more space for us and the toys we couldnt take with us.

So now the big issue... do we keep Dizzy and sell the missus Tiguan (2019 - biTDI 4WD) and possibly my 911 C4S (2016, 32k miles) ?

So torn on this one.

The 911 doesnt see light of day most of the time probably comes out the garage every weekend in the spring / summer but not in the winter unless its nice and dry and sunny. I think we didnt do 2k miles last year, plus whilst its low cost to run (700ish for tax and insurance) when things go wrong its pricey... and the servicing (whilst every 2y) isnt cheap + tyres are eye watering... Whereas the Tiguan is currently 60k miles, needs a cam belt in 20k but is relatively low cost to maintain and run.

Difficult one....

I feel you have almost answered your own question there. Let's face it, will you have time for the 911 when you have two vans? Which vehicle will you happily park in a supermarket car park? Which is the most economic to keep (maintenance, depreciation, insurance, etc)?
You might need to ask yourself some hard questions!

  • Agree
Reactions: Sad
But Penny puts such a smile on my face !

i think i would rather keep Dizzy as an everyday car / van - at least when i take out the back shelf and put the seats forward i can get all my carp fishing crap in there....

I do like the ML-Ts. Spotted this CrossOver on a campsite we stayed at in Switzerland a couple of summers ago.

We have a GC680, Cali Ocean (day van/run around/fishing) and 991.1 turbo S cab. The 991 is the last one I will be selling!

They’re lovely.
When I’m a bit older and grown up and out of campervans.
The MLT Cross is right up there.

Not at that stage in life yet.
Another 10 years maybe. Very nice vans.
Congrats.
