Have looked at this Fanttik X9 portable tyre inflator a few times, wondering if I should buy one. It would allow me to always easily make sure the tyres are at the right pressure, wherever I am. Also useful for bikes, etc at home. They're not that expensive anymore, but wondering if I would really bring it along and use it. ANyoen own one or something similair?

I have one exactly like this, just another brand but haven’t used it yet. It’s more a “in case there isn’t a gas station around” kind of thing for me.

I’m pretty sure patience is needed when inflating an almost flat.

I have a battery powered one in the car and a 12v one in the van... the one that plugs in with the van is superior and cheaper

We have a 12V one that we use in our off road travels to re-adjust the tyre pressure after lowering according to road conditions (pebbles, gravel, dirt, sand). Works great. Never used a battery-powered one.
Taking the pressure off a tyre with a jack as suggested above, before (re-)inflating, is good practice!

I still make do with a Foot Pump :)
I also use a foot pump. However, I’ve just bought this for when we’re in ‘travel mode’.
IMG_1517.jpegWhen used in conjunction with a petrol station / tyre inflation station, it provides me convenience with hopefully a little greater accuracy, something I’ve worried about previously.

The hi tech alternatives such as that above seem to be expensive overkill for most day to day needs. Yes, I want one!

I have always used my Makita one will my previous vans so it’s now always in the box for the Cali.

I managed to squeeze the ARB compressor I had on my old Landy under the bonnet. Works a treat, can air up from around 22 PSI to 50 on all 4 tyres in about 15 mins without it over heating.

We have a 12v compressor that car makers provide when they can’t be bothered to install a spare tyre. I tried to use it once, and as a result we ALWAYS carry a good old foot pump. It took longer to unravel the metres of cable from the unit, and then carefully wind it up again than pumping up a tyre from flat! And the unit didn’t inflate from 35psi to 45psi in 10 minutes, so I gave up.

I have tjis USB-C rechargeable one which I keep in the box with charging cable. It has a digital dash and buttons to set the BAR or PSI and cost around £18 from Amazon:

Even a 12v pump will need jacking up the van to remove weight off the tyre, otherwise it takes a really long time to get the needed pressure, and it will probably overheat by then and stop working.
50 psi is 50 psi whether or not it has a van sitting on it - simple physics.
All 12v pumps get hot; the good ones have a thermal cutout to prevent damage from overheating.

Certainly so much easier to use than a 12v cigarette lighter. Then check the car, her car & recharge. Also check the oil levels whilst I’m about it. Many uses and copy purchases from friends. I’ve also seen a combined L-ion jumpstart and tyre pump which makes even more sense. Unfortunately I’ve already got a L-ion jumpstart (witchcraft in itself) stowed in each glovebox, but I digress, sorry!

I've got one similar to this for about a fiver a few years ago, there's loads on Ali Express including many like the one in the original post, except a LOT cheaper. Would imagine like most of these things, all made in the same Chinese factory.

I've used it many times to top up the pressures and had no problems other than it getting a bit warm - the metal screw valve on the pump itself gets very very hot. Also use it on my mountain bike and it stays in the van. Gauge is pretty accurate, within 0.2 of what the van TPMS says, battery lasts well, topped up all 4 tyres before a long journey recently (a few minutes per tyre) and still showed two thirds charge. Easily charges in the van, think it's USB C.

Also got the VW supplied 12v cable one with the analogue gauge, had to use that a few times recently when had a screw in a tyre and it needed inflating from almost flat a few times before I could get the tyre repaired, pretty sure the little digital one would have struggled.

Use ours for the folding e-bikes too!
Used it this morning before we embarked on a 2,700km round trip from Brisbane to North Queensland (Australia) and back over the next 8 days.
