T7 Awning - which side is yours???

It would appear the rear bracket would be a straight swap to the other side, BUT not so the front bracket .
Other way round I'd say. Rear is directional.

Thanks. That is in line with the information I got from a van centre.

Confused by the cables, obviously at the rear rather than the front.
I heard the hydraulics are in the rear now.
So very quiet on roof operation.

I would go for kitchen side too. Alternatively you can use a sail on the other other side against the sun. for attachment on the van have can two options; sail chord or rings.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a sail or other easy set up option for the side without the awning?

Stitches and steel sail is meant to be the dogs doo dars.
Outwell are great but need to be on an awning really to have some room around them.

On your recommendation I have just ordered the Stiches and Sail so I’ll let you know when it arrives and post some photos.

Bloke had it attached to his T6.1, down in Sennen cove last year, and said it was very versatile and really easy to use.
He didn’t use it for being waterproof though. Just a sun shade.
And it looked more like a sail than the one I’ve just spotted on their eBay shop.

Which one did you go for ?

Hi, for the new T7 California Ocean it is not possible to move the awning, at least not with the same brackets. Did anyone find a solution to move the awning on the kitchen side? Now that there is the attached table, it makes more sense on that side, otherwise that side and the attached table is not possible to use (in a camping setup).

Hi,

I’ve bought a few stitches and steal products over time and really impressed. I have the large sail and really versatile. You need good poles, and I doubled up the guide ropes to keep it more secure. Offers lots of great options, on and off the van. Will find a few pics on the previous T6, not used it yet on the T7.

The awning is orderable now with the fitting to the RHS but adds some options and of extra costs, of course, however for the UK it is standard on the LHS ie kitchen side, so therefore there must be bracketery available to suit available to mount as we would ordinarily choose. Apologies if this has been mentioned but haven’t read all the related posts!

It's a shame they ALL seem to have migrated to the nearside. Spotting an oncoming transporter with an awning on the UK driver's side was the signal to offer a Cali wave.
I can't see Thule (?) making two different awnings so I suspect it's just brackets too.
Are the mounting points on the awning the same distance from each end of the awning? Otherwise, swapping it over would see it advance forward or backwards from it's original planned location.

Aren't these the brackets you need to purchase to mount it on either side?
(I'm assume the awning doesn't change, but worth double checking with them I guess)

The dealer basically said the only option they offer is to buy another awning. Thule confirmed that this model is made specifically for Volkswagen, so they can’t provide separate brackets or any workaround.

So, at least here in Switzerland, the only real solution is to buy a new awning. Even if you somehow find brackets, you wouldn’t really be able to move it properly. The branding would end up upside down, so it would look off.

So no, it doesn’t seem to be possible.

Interesting to here that dealers have been saying you can swap it over. It looks like you can but my dealer said you cannot swap it. I went for the default of the awning on the passenger side. Made sense to me.

We have a LHD Cali Coast and awning is on passenger side(not kitchen side). It came fitted as it’s an ex-demo vehicle. Have just bought a driveaway awning for kitchen side which will give us more options.

We have the awning on RHS.
We borrowed a California with the LHS awning & found with the table out etc. it was very restrictive going in and out.
Just personal preference.
We have put the driveway awning on the left hand side for a change.

You can swap it, but you need to buy the mirrored mounts for the other side, they cost some 80 bucks.

I bought them, but never managed to install so far.

In a camping recently I saw T7 with awnings on both sides :)

Why would the Branding be upside down?
You would just be turning the awning 180 in the horizontal plane when fitting. The Branding and handle connections would be at the opposite end of the vehicle and the Thule Branding would still be the correct way up.

I would have thought the R side , Drivers side RHD on the Ocean. Because although you have 2 sliding doors the L side is partially obstructed by the kitchen.
Mine was fitted on passenger side.
You are most likely to use here as the small table clips there outside the van & also there is the external power point underneath the table.
