Impossible question: which brand of oil is the best for Cali?

Of course, I need to buy 0w30 viscosity, VW 50700, preferably LL, and full synthetic,... that is clear. My engine is DNA 150hp. I was set on using a VW brand and changing it every 10k to 12k kms and once a year in minimum. However, I realised now that VW sources the oil from different manufactures. I already changed oil at 10k and VW oil was manufactured by Shell in Germany. Now, on the store shelfs is the "same" oil but manufactured in France.... from unspecified supplier. There are maybe some other oil producers involved? This leads me to question consistency of quality. Maybe I should consider another proven brand and stick with it. Brand which is not likely to have fake/counterfit circulation?

With 10k - 12 k kms oil changes probably most of the oils will do a good job. But which will do the best job? I know, impossible question to answer because so many of us have their favourite brands or strong experiences. I usually do what the manufacturer says.... in my Alfa Romeo Stelvio I only use for 6 years now Petronas Selenia oil, in a Volvo Castrol Edge, exactly to the specifications. AFAIK VW does not endorse a particular brand, does it?

What are you using?

I will go with Liqui Moly 4210, it is local to me. :)

I use walnut oil on the chopping board, silicon oil on the rubber seals and the correct specification as per the handbook in the gearbox, engine, air conditioning system and the brakes.

I use castrol 5 30 long life. Change it every year. So castrol 5 30 short life really. No issues. 204 hp 2016 engine

As has been intimated, VW get their oil from many sources. They don't make it themselves. SO..... IMO VW are ripping off customers by insisting on their own VW 507 00 spec. or whatever it is on the new T6.001(?). It's nothing special except their price for it. Any oil from any manufacturer with the right spec is good enough. So 5W-30 C3 (low SAPS needed for DPF) is good to go.
e.g. driving home from a recent trip to the Peak District my yellow oil warning started flashing. So I stopped to get a litre to top up. All I could find was Carlube 5W-40 fully sythetic with a C3 rating. Good enough IMO...................... Queue all the naysayer comments warning me that my engine is doomed. Hahaha!

Your engine isn't doomed, it's already knackered if it requires that much of a top up between services.

The best oil is Petronas 5000 dm 5/30 far better fuel consumption /performance I've tried them all !!! This stuffs liquid gold

I use Petronas Selenia in my AR Stelvio. Used another Petronas grade 0W20 in my Subarus. Good oils.

Just to be clear, you’re telling us you can actually record better fuel consumption and power with one particular oil over others?

Should you consider changing your user name to perhaps H C Andersen?

In principle, any oil will do as long as it meets the required specification ,in this case, VW 507 00.

I tend to buy Castrol 5W-30 LongLife (LL)from Costco. It works out cheapest, comes in a 5L bottle, and I can use it in my wife’s 520d as well , plus it gives me an excuse to spend £1.50 on a hotdog.

I service both cars at home every 5–6k miles, usually 2–3 times a year. For me, that’s the key to minimising carbon and sludge build-up, and reducing the chance of diesel diluting oil.

Owners believe sticking to the manufacturers recommended service schedule is sufficient. This is not the case.20-30k miles oil changes was just a marketing exercise to promote sales.

Some people would call that overkill. I find it therapeutic, a nice little weekend job. But I’m a bit weird like that.

Both cars had to have new engines. one from poor oil servicing and the other from EGR CFCA related issues.

The 520df11 was a copart purchase where I half expected the engine will be toast. You wouldn't believe the carnage inside. Couldn't see a single cam with the cam cover removed. There was no room for lubrication.

The Cali was sold to me as perfectly running whilst burning 1L of oil every 200 miles. Without getting in any details, stay away from Moorlake limited

The above oil, 5000 DM, is not approved for the current diesel engines in Cali. Another version, 5000 AV, is approved. One needs to be careful to the details.
