Goodbye 6.1, hello T7, Goodbye T7 hello 6.1

Original 6.1, 4.5yrs old. Service catastrophe!
Two month repair, two months new T7 Coast courtesy van. Elected to px my van for new.
Choice of T7 or last of the 6.1’s
Chose the 6.1, personally felt the T7 was not for me. My wife felt the same!
What servicing issues did you have with the original 6.1?

What does "px" mean? Did they give you the choice of a new one JUST because of how bad the previous one was after 4.5 years??

Went to dealership for service. Technicians made a mistake resulting in a major repair. Dealership owned the issue from start to finish.

My 4.5 year old van was in fantastic condition. The issues were resolved.

As a result of the servicing issues and time to resolve, I was presented with the opportunity to get a positive result from the situation.

Consequently, i took the opportunity and resulted in a new 6.1

PX = Part Exchange
Or prescription if you work in a pharmacy

See here where the OP detailed the servicing issue: https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/thread...ce-to-zero-oil-in-47-miles.57037/#post-737200

The dealer messed up badly and ended up having to replace the whole engine.

PX = part exchange = the dealer will buy your current vehicle for an agreed price if you buy a new one off them.

Part exchange is handy because you don’t have to go through the hassle and risk of selling privately before you can buy a new car. You can generally get a lot more selling privately though. So I’m guessing ten dealer offered a remarkably good price for the part exchange to make it worth it? How much did they offer @Duff?

Ocean 150bhp 4.5 year + 17k > Ocean 204bhp pre-reg 8 miles delivery.

Inclusive 5yr warranty, 5yr service, 5yr Roadside + 3 Mot’s.

Plus as you say, i got myself in to a position of not wanting the responsibility of a private sale. Even though my Van (44,000miles) was now perfect with a new engine etc.

That is one sweet deal indeed. Sorry for your troubles but also congrats (and being able to try out the T7 for a couple of months was a nice bonus on top).

Glad you got a great result for you.
Although T7 not for you, how did you find it overall please ?
Thanks

*Very car like.
*Smaller than 6.1 inside
*Lower driving position
*Driver / Passenger position to end of bonnet longer
*Small windows in “A” frame aesthetically pointless
*Faffy around dashboard touch switches
*Finish very plasticky
*Coast upholstery bit low rent
*looks like a ford galaxy

I guess i’m bias as i had the choice of new 6.1 Ocean albeit pre reg or T7 i chose the 6.1, next time around it may have to be a T7, i think i would wait several years for it to get established with various iterations etc.

We are looking to upgrade from a T5 Ocean to a T6.1 or T7. Your comments above are interesting. Does anyone else have a view about the T7. Dealers have question us as to why pay more or less the same for an older van as we can get so much more in a T7 but we like the space in the T6.2

The deal breaker for me was the fact it is over 5m long and we use as daily driver / park in car parks regularly. Also, a longer car like drive, didn't mitigate the lost storage inside the T6.1, plus the bench seat with cushions is a nicer place to lounge than the single (though comfortable) seats in T7

I’m in full agreement with “Wannabe” T7 does indeed overhang the standard parking space, although longer on the outside the internal space is compromised. The length seems to be dominated by the long bonnet, internal dimensions narrower and shorter in my opinion, not by a great deal although is very noticeable moving from T6.

They would say that - they want to sell you a new van. There’s a reason a T6.1 would be the same price. They’re in demand and they’re not made anymore.

How about this as a thought…

I was always put off a conversion due to the roof. However, i understand you can order a transporter with the standard pop up roof from the factory. Now, i may be tempted to consider a conversion based on this set up. Take a look at “Hillside campers” Derby

I'm back in my T6.1 after a rejected brand new T7 and some limited camping experience in a loan vehicle. There's too many faults with the new vans and the camping experience for us was too compromised for all the well documented and very valid reasons.

2 months of T7 daily driver in a suburb of Newcastle / in Newcastle and so far the length hasn't caused any massive issues - normally end up in a space with no/little overhang and I note in tight car parks it's no worse than massive range rovers, etc.

I'm not saying it fits in as neatly as my old Skoda Karoq but it's far from catastrophic for city life
