We did not get any further with this as self drive hire insurance is very specialist and most companies won't touch you unless you have a trading history, your only real option is Alan Boswell, there are companies they are pay as you go but it can end up being very costly and the cover is not great.

Funnily enough, the other thing I’m looking into is buying land and having some form of eco house, glamping pods, shepherds huts or similar to let out. That requires slightly more capital though and from what I can gather, one has to jump through many hoops

A lot of people are buying Campervans, but what about the people who cannot afford the monthly payments, and would like a week away in one ?

There is 100% a market for rentals, problem is it's seasonal, or at least has been.

Most if not all hire companies can rent their entire fleet for the School Holidays, the problem is winter and outside of these times.

I've done a lot of research. Depends what people are trying to achieve, for example:

1) Someone who doesn't need their Cali for School Holidays but wants some income. Perfect for this in my opinion.

2) Someone who wants to run it as a full business: Very time consuming, again, only returns during peak times, depreciation etc.

We charge just under £900 per week for July and August and have been fully booked all the way through on both vans! If you do the sums on that you can see it is very worthwhile.

This has crossed my mind as we have a new T7 multivan ocean and a customer of mine up the road rents his Ocean T6.1 and says its always rented making a nice return/side hustle, but i dont know how true that is?

If i were to try and make a business out of it for my wife to look after renting it out, is it viable?

We own it outright so not worried about covering repayments but equally dont want it battered, or find the pop top goes mouldy due to not having it aired thru the weeks that its on hire etc?

I didnt want to pm the good folk here without there permission but would really appreciate their real world experiences if I could contact direct??

It’s the same as renting a house; You have no control over how the person hiring will treat your asset. Just make sure that the insurance / damage deposit is enough to cover all incidents (normal wear & tear excluded).
