After getting up last Monday morning and seeing the weather forecast for the week we thought lets do the Dorset coast as its going to be nice all week, it was truly fantastic weather...

One interesting thing we noticed about the parking charges in Weymouth, the rules around parking charges for campervans seem to be spreading out from the old pavilion carpark. We usually park in the swannery CP and it now appears there are length limits in place of 4.8m max (pretty sure it wasnt like this last year but am happy to be corrected), if you are over that or a van setup for habitation then you need to park in specific bays and pay more... what a surprise....

And dont get me going on the charges for the summer season starting on the 1st of April... great day because they are a joke...

This has been debated and discussed so many times, albeit citing different car parks.
The choice for local authorities is whether to allow urban car parks to become clogged by a sea of white whales or to control parking througb rationing and price mechanisms.
Whilst I get as frustrated as you clearly are, ranting on here won't change anything, in my opinion.
Personally I park away from centres (on a campsite perhaps) and jump on a bus. Or walk, if not too far.
Others will make their own choices.depending on circumstances.
The 4.8m rule is clearly aimed at campervans and does annoy me but, as my better galf points out, there isn't anything I can do to change that, I can only make a decision as to whether to stay (and face a fine) or move on. We move on.
There are much bigger issues out there to risk a fine for.

Drives me mad too! A lot of Dorset car parks are the same now, we have abandoned Lyme Regis, West Bay and Weymouth in the van so we now go to Devon instead! Exmouth is brilliant…great beachside parking and dog friendly sections of the beach all year.

Yes it has been discussed before. Think I created one of the posts!!!

4.8m is considered a standard size space in the UK although many car parks are now at 5.0m. That would make the Cali fit in a space, one of the reasons we bought it. But then they have other stuff like habitation, cooking etc even if you are using it as your car.

Finally, if you parked next to an SUV like a Kia Sorento, would both vehicles get a ticket??

What amuses me is my old 2016 A6 avant was the same length as the cali at 4.9m !
