My factory fitted Goodyear 235/55R17 103H all weather tyres need replacing.
Looking at the Mitchelin Cross Climate 3 235 /55 R17 103Y XLTL
Has anyone had any experience or has any thoughts on suitability for my California Ocean T6.1 ?

Suitable and well used by the VW community

The XL will have a stiffer side wall.
Stiffer side wall = slightly harsher ride.

I hadn’t realised there were two versions… what do you recommend XL or non XL - I’m thinking tyre for best all year round performance

I fitted the cross climates 2, last year, just before 3's were released. Very happy, had Cross climates on a previous car, mine are XL, which I think are recommended for California's, happy with the ride. Michelin tyres are far better than factory fitted Bridgestones, which were puncture magnets.

A proper commercial tyre is best, I use Bridgestone Duravis which are excellent. Pirelli make a Carrier range which is a proper light truck / commercial tyre. The sizes we buy for Californias tend to be the smallest in these ranges which are used by light commercials such as supermarket delivery vans banging up and down kerbs all day long.

If you want Michelin their commercial van range is called Agilis in which I think there are cross climate versions.

Don’t confuse Bridgestone Duravis with Turanza which are the car tyre range VW decided to fit as OEM for a while. Quite a few complaints on here for the Turanza although I have used them on cars successfully for years.

Had Michelin Cross Climate 3 235 /55 R17 103Y extra load fitted yesterday to replace continental 215 tyres , very happy with them out in the rain today and run at a lower pressure so more comfort and car like !

ATS mobile fitting £735 all fitted but paid £639 with NHS discount ( mobile fitting due to not wanting dirty used tyres in my van !)

Yes, not crossclimates but good year vectors, had them in normal and SUV versions, the SUV wear better(20% more miles ) and handle better with high centre of gravity of the Cali. As recommended by Goodyear UK.

Yes they are superb quality. (Haven't tried on a Cali but have done on long distance rally cars. Most of the Porsches on the East African Safari Rally run them, which is testimony to their toughness and puncture resistance.)

I had them fitted to my t6.1 Coast about a year ago, good grip and handling if slightly noisier.

They are probably a bit louder but a campervan is quite loud already so it doesn't bother me. Probably seen the last of the snow for this winter here in Germany so didn't get a chance to fully test them.

Interesting. What tyre pressure you running?

I’ve had exact same Cross Climate 3 on the front for a while now. I found the steering went very light, esp motorway driving, so dropped the tire pressure down a few psi from 44psi front (factory recommended, door sticker)
