I dread asking yet another question about tyres on this helpful forum.

We will need to change the Bridgestone Van tyres with a Load Rating of 109 that VW fitted to our van. Do people stick to van tyres with a higher load rating of 109 or do some people have fitted tyres with a load rating of 100 (Reinforced Xtra Load) that you would typically fit to a large SUV?

Actually Goodyear do make a tyre with a 104 load rating, Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Cargo 215/60 R17 H (104)

Having said that I have found Costco (if you're a member) look to be the best value for tyres. Although we can always contact our local Protyre for a deal.

Everyone loves a tyres thread so what could possibly go wrong!

IS the spec actually a 109 rated tyre, it seems high and will probably be a very stiff wall...

Our Beach has a 103 rated tyre and I appreciate an Ocean may be heavier but as I said, 109 seems high. A quick google shows a T32 van using 109 rated tyres but almost everything else on 103 / 104

The recommended minimum Load Rating is 103 and Speed Rating H.

You can fit higher if you wish But Not lower.

Thank you. I've just looked and the information is on the sticker on the driver's door pillar. Last question...

Can you fit the 235/55 R17 (wider tyres) on the same original 17" alloys that VW fitted to the van with the 215/60 Bridgestone tyres? Thanks.

Yes and you will be surprised how much more pleasant the ride is, much smoother less crashy.

The 235's also run at around 10psi less than the 215's.

I believe the reason for the 215,s is to leave enough room for snow chains to be fitted, of course this may not be of interest for you. But as said above the ride is a bit harsh and we have had need to use chains in the Alps on winter ski trips. But I do like all season tyres even for getting off a grass pitch in the wet.

Yes I noticed this on the van sticker on the door frame. I'll probably go for the...

I have exactly that and they’ve been excellent in all weather conditions. Pretty quiet and ride quality very good at 3.0bar all round. Not had any issues.

Perfect, I have been looking to get mine swapped. The Y rated ones are all I could find. Your good for 186mph with those on!

Captain sensible here on GT Radial Maxmiler pro. Decent price, high load, quiet and smooth. Only reservation is the tread is not very chunky so may have to rely on the plastic grippy plates in very wet fields.

This is what I run. Highly recommend them.

We have been running Michelin Cross Climate 2 235/55R17 103Y Extra Load for a couple of years and very happy with performance. No issues driving on snow in ski resort with excellent traction. Also noticing that tyre wear is minimal compared to the previous tyres fitted.

Those are what I fitted in February and am very happy with them. I've drove down to Portugal two weeks ago, through some really big storms and they handled very nicely.
