Start / Stop Function = button delete

just fitted mine, simple enough job and works a treat.

Controversial opinion regarding the Stop/Start here. I like the idea that it gives a good indication if I have a DPF regen running. I know that there is the subtle increase in idle revs too, but for me its a quick guide as whether I want to switch off instantly or wait for the regen to complete. But I'll agree to the downsides too.

you can leave it in the 'normal' position too. it just remembers the last setting, that is all it is doing. so in heavy traffic you want start stop to work just press the button again, can't see whats so controversial about that

You can deactivate via VAGCOM Pro. Not sure if a garage will do it though

yes i saw that ,theres a vid on youtube. does it let you turn it back on by just pressing the button though or do you have to vagicom it again ?

I would imagine it needs to be reprogrammed each time. The cheap hardware mods are better for toggling. Just remember to remove it before a service.

can't see how they would ever know without taking the dash apart as it still works as normal. as for servicing i do mine myself anyway

The cable is behind the dash,

under normal circumstances no one would know it’s there , the fact that you can switch to permanently off or normal operation should mean that there is no effect on warranty, as it’s no different to pressing the button on the dash, albeit you don’t have to press the button to get the desired effect.

several weeks in a all is good with mine

Edit : update 15 months on all good

Good morning, I am keen to do this mod so I can reverse the logic of the switch and enable the SS facility when it actually adds some value i.e. not cutting out just when I am shifting into reverse when parking. Can anyone explain how to remove the switch module, I have had a look around the net and cannot find the answer TIA

Sorry I should have said this is T6.1

Answered my own question popped out easily with my figernail

I hate the start stop function with a passion.
it cannot be good for the engine despite the marketing BS.
IMO it assists the manufacturer attain false emissions claims at the cost of wear and tear to the engine.

I always try to remember to switch it off, but quite often forget until the stop kicks in.

I was aware that some people had purchased & spliced a small circuit board into the factory wiring loom, I wasn’t keen on chopping into the factory loom So decided against.

recently I saw some cables coming up as a suggestion, which appear to do the job Without the need to slice a PCB into the loom. I.e a complete assembly with OEM connections.

I purchased a small pre cable assembly with an integrated circuit board, it remembers the last setting of the Start / Stop Button function.

Can be turned off to switch back to normal function if required by simply pressing the start / stop button To turn it back on (factory default)

very easy to fit, requires the centre decor trim, around the head unit, to be removed (T6 comfort Dash)
Trim tool placed In bottom left corner , next to glove box then work anti clockwise back to the top left corner.
pull the whole assembly forward and lift clear

use a trim tool to depress the metal tab on the top rear of Start / Stop button to release it from the dash.

Pull the cable forward so you can see the white plug in the back of the switch.

Unclip the white plug (depress the retaining clip with a small flat blade to release)

Plug the new cable in (Red connector to switch, black connector to loom).

re- assemble in reverse order.

Turn on ignition, press the Start stop button so it illuminates (turns off the function) . Turn ignition off.

Turn ignition back on , wait a few seconds and hey presto the Start stop button illuminates.

the last photo shows the listing for the cable (Ali Express, although they are readily available from all the usual outlets, Mega sellers, Auction sites etc. )

Thanks Perfectos, a really helpful post, took the fear out of attacking the dash! Relatively simple to fit and works a treat.
