Sliding Doors Mysteriously Open

Have returned to the van to find the sliding door wide open. Has anyone experienced this? Know the reason? How to prevent it?

I thought the van was fully locked, and in both occasions, the van has been parked on the flat. But it was such a shock to discover the door wide open after 3 hours. Fortunately, the van has not been ransacked, but I’ve no idea how long it has been sat wide open.

Assuming electronic opening from the fob.

It is possible to press and hold the Un- lock button for several seconds and the front windows and all doors will unlock , front windows open all the way, if the divers door remains unopened the van can relock itself. I assume the electric slider may have a similar function, I.e. opens fully, but would not reclose when the system relocks.

Give it a try on the fob?

If one of the doors is not fully closed and you try to lock the car with FOB it will not behave as usual:
The turn signals will not flash on and off twice as normal to indicate that the vehicle is locked.

I noticed this once and indeed the front door was not closed correctly at the time, which was not visible at first glance. Make sure you hear the locks engaging and the turning lights flash normally.

It could be a fault with the sensors embedded in the rubber seal that runs vertically along the leading edge of the electrically operated sliding door. If, when open, you run your fingers down the seal, pushing in slightly, you can feel these sensors every inch or so. They are there as a safety feature to prevent someone getting a hand, or suchlike, trapped in the door when it is closing. As these swiches are pushed in slightly with you fingers -if it is quiet- you can normally hear slight clicking noises coming from around the rear A/C unit just inside the door.
It happened to me. The door was opening/closing erratically for no reason, but after I found the switches by feel, & run my fingers up & down the strip a couple of times -pressing in- & then switched the electric door back on, it was cured. That was at least 2 years ago & it hasn't done it since. It's happened to others on the forum. One person had it happen whilst within warranty period & the dealer changed the whole strip.

Well, I had the same experience - came back to find door open. I have T7 California with electric doors. I “think” my issue was that there is a foot open/close sensor. So if you waive your foot or if anything like a cat/mouse or any movement detected by the foot sensor while the key is in range the door will open (or close). I find that quite often when cleaning or leaning in triggers the open/close foot sensor. I have reached out to VW to see if it can be disabled as it also prevents side steps being installed as I’m told they will cause false trigger of the foot sensor.

I saw that, but doesn’t that disable all the easy open features not the foot sensor in isolation. I’ll double check. Thanks.

No. Just waving your foot under tailgate and both sliding doors to open them. Walking upto vehicle with fob in pocket still unlocks vehicle automatically when in range.
