My California is a 2023 6.1 Ocean. Just come back from a trip. I’m pretty good at finding and sorting out rattles but this recent one has stumped me (as well as driving me crazy). Over bumps I hear a rattle, more like a clattering, on the near side, above the sink and hob unit. I’ve checked and secured the window blind both up and down, the 3 pocket window shield at the rear, the cupboard doors and all contents, the table secured by its peg. Still happens. I’m wondering if there is something loose in the pop top ? Anyone had this problem ?

Yup, I have similar. Not found it yet!

Not sure if this helps, but I had a different rattle around the steering column and used a cheap medical stethoscope to locate the problem whilst my wife drove the car.

I got into some contortions whilst doing so and recalled Spike Milligan’s tale about being found in the boot of Peter Sellers’ Rolls Royce.

This could be a contribution?
Pinch the blind here and it wobbles back and forth quite noisily!

I’ve just located a loud knock which occurred on bumps. It sounded like it was coming from the top of the wardrobe. Turned out to be the roof mechanism. On on of the pins of the ‘scissors’ a piece of rubber dampening had fallen off and when the roof was closed the mechanism was rattling. I confirmed this by comparing it to the non-rattling side. I cut an 8mm piece of garden hose and then cut a slit to allow it to fit over the pin. Sorted. It had been driving me crazy for months, thought it was something serious!

I had a very annoying roof level rattle that I couldn’t figure out. Doinded similar to your description. It was the awning. It had loosened (I mean slightly unrolled inside its housing) over a long drive and was rattling about. I just wound it out a little, wound it back in and rattle was no more. It occasionally recurs but now I know what it is!

Yes the awning rattle is pretty common. Citygate advised me to get someone to hold up the awning while winding it in, which also helps with any fabric creases. Worth a try..

Thank you, thank you, thank you. After travelling through Germany, France, Switzerland and finally taking the ferry to Sardinia, you solved this problem with my Cali T5.

I spent an age in the back of the van with my wife dutifully following my instructions to drive over as many potholes as possible in an effort to locate the source of the noise. Deduction led no where, neither did removal of tables and bed support shelf etc etc.I was fully convinced that the door was the issue and was prepared for an expensive VW service when I changed upon your post.

In the end the most difficult part of the solution was to convince a hardware store owner to sell me 3 inches of garden hose, and voila! 10 minutes later no more clanking or clunking.

Thank you so much.
