Replacement of original VW shunt by Victron Smart Shunt?

I could not find the exact answer to my question if the original VW shunt can be replacent 1 on 1 by a Victron Smart Shunt in a California T5 while maintaining the normal functionality of the overhead control panel?

After consulting two Victron dealers I was told twice that the Victron smart shunt could simply be installed in series with the Volkswagen shunt. Knowing this, finding a convenient way to install the smart shunt was easy.
The shunt is installed just above the rear Super B 100Ah LFP battery in the cable leading to the original Volkswagen shunt under the fridge.
