Parking Sensor fault

Hi all I am a bit new to this, I have a California SE TDI 140 2010 reg and the parking sensors have developed a fault. When I first put the vehicle into reverse the sensor display illuminates but then stops and then all I get is a constant sound and then nothing. The switch on the dash flashes for a few seconds and then goes off.

I have taken the vehicle to a garage and have been told that its likely to be a faulty unit or corroded wires on the rear nearside sensor and the only way to get to this unit is by taking all the back paneling out to get below the water tank, which seems very extreme and expensive to me. Apparently there are not enough volts going to the unit. If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful, thanks for reading this.
