Well, I finally decided to take the plunge and have a go at removing the bed, to see what weight I could save and provide storage space.

I have taken several photos to show the removal; it turned out fairly simple in the end.

First, I remove the plastic trim covers which hold the bed to the three jockey wheels in the sidewall of the van. ( 2 on the offside and only 1 on the nearside)

The first trim near to the handle and where you would attach the ladder has a small screw at the front- level with the mattress. Once this is removed the plastic trim can be pushed upwards and it comes off showing the metal welded bracket which has a spline drive bolt (star screw head). I had a set of star screw type allen key bought from Lidl( Parkway brand) and the largest (T50) did the trick, although I did have to use a 13mm open-ended spanner to stop the black shaft turning that the spline drive bolt screws in to(see photos 1,2,4)

The other two plastic trims are push-fit only( no screw), hence you will need a plastic trim tool to prize these off without causing any damage( they come off quite easily). see photos.(2)

Again you have the same setup as before - metal welded bracket which has a spline drive bolt (star screw head) and removal of both is the same as above ( T50 and 13mm spanner) (photo 5, 6)

You can then carefully remove the entire bed frame, no wires to disconnect and the unit comes out complete.

Final picture is the space left ( note the nylon wheels remain in the side runners and at this time the “black shaft” that the spline drive bolt screws in to remain attacked to the nylon wheels, I can see these can be removed but are held in place with a circlip. (photo7)

Thanks Dave

P.S.
The bad news is that when I weighed all the items removed the total weight was as follows:

Ladder - 3.75kg

Pillow area of mattress( little triangle) 1.05kg

Front mattress - 2.05kg

Rear mattress – 2.45 kg

Bed frame with slats etc - 8.30kg

Total weight removed - 17.60 kg
