Kitchen lid not opening

Has anyone ever suffered from a hob / sink lid not opening? Our’s is fine, but having not used them for a week or two, the catch was a little stiff to work the first time that I tried. (I’m a bit nervous about these catches now, having just had the fridge catch replaced after breaking in the open position).

ours can be a bit temperamental at times, ...just need to you your pointiest finger!

I know what you mean.
I don’t know what goes on behind those latches. What would anyone do if they found that not even their pointiest finger with sharpened nails didn’t open it? Perhaps the push plate of the latch just flicks out with a Stanley knife? Anyone know?
