Hi all,
I have a VW California T6.1 (Coast) and the cigarette lighter socket in the centre console has died - the fuse blows instantly every time I replace it, so I suspect a short circuit somewhere in the socket itself or the wiring right behind it.
I want to remove/replace the socket, but I'm struggling to figure out how to get it out of the console without breaking the surrounding trim. From what I've read, this is trickier on the T6.1 than on earlier T5/T6 dashboards.
Has anyone here done this recently and can share the steps (or a photo/video of the process)? Specifically:
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Vincent

Has anyone here done this recently and can share the steps (or a photo/video of the process)? Specifically:
- How do you release the trim panel around the cigarette lighter/12V socket without cracking the plastic?
- Once the trim is off, how does the metal socket housing itself unclip from the connector behind it?
- Any tips on reconnecting a new socket, or is it easier to just source the whole console insert as one part?
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Vincent
