Can anyone help me as I can’t get an appointment at VW for almost two months! I have a two year old California ocean and one of the rear headrests will not fold down. The button depresses and I can remove it completely but it doesn’t release the mechanism to allow the headrest to drop. Anyone able to help me to avoid having to cancel a road trip I have arranged in 6 weeks time. Totally frustrated with VW customer service - it is an absolute joke.

Where do you live?

Nearest dealership is Hull as I live in East Yorkshire

Take it is still have VW assist ring them up tell them issue tell them you are about to go away. So can not camp they should get you priority dealer booking if they cant fix it at road side

Does this help?

Many thanks, not as quick, easy and reversible as I had hoped :)

If you can remove it completely then surely you can set up the bed?
I can only remove the button not the headrest… that is still locked in place unfortunately.

I managed to fix it myself - will post how in case someone equally technically challenged has the same problem….

If button stuck in and doesn’t release headrest then give it a bang below the button at the same time as wiggling the headrest. This should bring the button back up.

Pull the button with your fingers to release the button completely and pull out.

I have attached an image of the mechanism with the button removed. Then use some narrow pliers to move the bar from side to side… this should free up the mechanism and you can then put the button back on and it works fine. Not sure why it stopped working so I put a small amount of wd40 on the mechanism (beware of staining the seats behind the headrests - although not visible it was still annoying to me).

I hope this helps anyone else facing this issue.
