GC680Auxiliary Heater

I am unable to start the auxiliary heater using the overhead control panel or the key fob, whether stationary (ignition on and off) or moving.
The message reads “auxiliary heater off” and there is no troubleshooting section in our driver’s manual.
Is it me?
