Had our first night away in our new Grand California 600 and it was superb. What a machine! Absolutely loved it and looking forward to many, many more!

Very snug and cosy and surprisingly good to drive - even with huge gusts battering off the side of the van. VW’s crosswind assist is brilliant.

There are limits to the cross wind assist!

The GC600 is quite tall and narrow, and in big gusty cross winds you can indeed feel that. Mostly, it's nothing much and bit of pressure on the handwheel (steering wheel) stops it wandering. However, a bit gust, with the wrong "geography" and you can end up entirely on the wrong side of the road as we found out in NordKapp, the far North of Norway!

The E69 road north there runs right next to the coast, with steep cliffs either side, and we rounded a corner, doing only around 40 mph, and hit a huge gust of wind funned at us off the landward side cliff, and it blew us straight onto the opposite side of the road! Nothing was coming the otherway, so rather than start a fight i just let it run wide and then slowly bought it back to the correct side of the road. I THINK i could probably have kept it on our side if something had been coming, but it would have been a bit of a wilder ride and i suspect a 'dab of oppo or two would have been required even with the DSC jumping in to help..... (30 years of rally driving certainly help in these situations :) )
