Hi.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge regarding the factory for reversing camera fitted to the 2024 GC600…?
I have fitted a ladder, bike rack and some boxes to the back doors and as such they obscure the view of the existing camera. My plan is to build a 50cm extension arm that I can fit to the top of the brake light and rewire the camera on the end of the brake. I would also like to fit some beef up reversing lights after backing into a ditch on Christmas Eve on the Isle of Aaran and having to get a farmer tow me out

Everything you can find on the web refers to retrofit cameras that look like the GC 600 camera, but I’m guessing don’t have the same wiring.

So the question.

1. Where can I get a replacement camera that will simply plug and play directly into the existing wire loom?
2. Where can I source an extension cable that I can use to extend the existing loom by 50 cm?
3. How can I pick up a 12 V supply at the brake light that only comes on when the reversing camera is activated?

I’m sure I could solve a lot of these problems by myself if I could only find a wiring diagram for the factory fit camera and a pin out for the plug. If anyone has one of these that would be brilliant to see.

Hope you can help.

I added a second camera which is a rear view mirror camera and that may be an easier option for you. Wolfbox G900Pro with bracket for mirror & extra cable. I removed the factory mirror and replaced it with the Wolfbox screen.Simple to run the wiring to the rear of the van.

If you decide to dig further into re-wiring the OEM camera, the entire workshop manual of any VW, including the GC, can be accessed via the official VW site. It is paywalled, around £10/hr but you can print and download as much as you find. See https://volkswagen.erwin-store.com/erwin/showHome.do

There are a good number of files that can be downloaded from the UK VW Grand Cali Facebook site - https://www.facebook.com/groups/833942000874865/ - have a scan through the files section as there are some wiring diagrams for the Crafter if memory serves. It's a pretty active site and if you can't find the info on this forum you may on the FB group.

I’ve fitted the same Wolfbox camera and well worth it. I do need to sort the cable route out though and that mount looks loads better

Brilliant info Gordon. Thanks. I’m probably going to have a go at re wiring the OE Cam but will maye look at a retrofit like the wolf box as well. Where did you run the wires..? Don’t want to do any damage.
