I have a VW California Ocean T6.1 from May 2021

The control panel shows.
Failure: pop-up roof open.
Please visit workshop.

But the roof is not open and cannot be raised.

Description of the error:

I press OK on the control panel, now I can see there is an error on the roof, the roof shows red.

The control panel briefly shows that the roof is OK, and changes back to red error again if I open the left front door and slam the door hard, with the ignition off.

The control panel shows Ok if I start the car and drive forward, as long as I accelerate the roof shows ok, when I release the accelerator it shows error again.

The roof can also show OK for a short moment, if I drive on an uneven road where the car twists and shakes a lot.

if I drive the car's right front wheel up a steep slope of 15-20 degrees the car twists so much that the error disappears.
When I reverse the car back down the red roof error returns.

if you are lucky enough to reset the roof in one way or another, the roof can easily go up and down several times.
when you subsequently start the car the error is back.

The four sensors in the roof and the control box J608 for the roof have been replaced, but that hasn't fixed the error.

The wires from the control box J608 to the sensors have been tested, no errors found.
The test was carried out by two different workshops.

The entire roof has been mechanically adjusted by the workshop several times, but that hasn't worked either.

VW in Denmark is still working on the error and has not found a solution yet.

Does anyone in the club have any good ideas for this error or have experienced something similar.

Regards Henrik

Generically i would say an Earth connection that is loose, that doesn't mean the bolt appears tight as often they can be crossed thread so tight but not clamping down, or they have been clamped down but tape or glue is interfering. I would switch the ign on and just gently move the wires about and se if you can get it to trigger or clear.

The other component that effects the roof hall sensors is a resistor pack that they added into the T6.1 as part of move to the new control unit.

It also does the the Fresh and Waste Water, but a connection issue with this could create an error - this might also seem odd but if there is an issue, then fresh water or waste water sensors levels could effect the roof readings if there is an earth issue with this part. The part is screwed to the seat metal frame near control unit, again gentle movement of the cables and see if it effects the roof.

I have tried removing the 4 fuses and reinstalling them after 5 minutes but that does not help with the error.
This is almost certainly a hardware / wiring issue and not software

Thanks a lot for the information.
I'll write again after I've checked the ground connection and moved the wires a bit.
