Engine management fault P2046

Hi all
I have the engine management light on in our 2018 Ocean.
I have a generic fault code scanner which has said the fault code is P2047. I e attached the photo of the code and the freeze frame info.
The van is under the All In warranty. A bit of googling suggests this code could be anything from damaged wiring (which appears to be excluded from All In) to failed Adblue injector (which could be covered).
My dilemma is do I book it into the dealer and gamble the inevitable diagnosis fee hoping that it is covered or look for an independent (any suggestions around Manchester really appreciated) to diagnose and fix.
Does anyone have any experience with this fault code and likely issue or any views on best approach.
Any help most appreciated.

Have you checked for any damaged wiring underneath the vehicle in the area between Adblue tank and engine?

WelshGas is correct - I would check the wiring first
Because the AdBlue injector is mounted underneath close to the exhaust, its connector and wiring are exposed to water, road salt, heat and vibration. An intermittent connection here can produce exactly this code.

Can I see anything without removing any of the covers under the van.

The add blue injector is on the drivers side (uk) it attaches to the Exhaust via a clamp. It is fitted with an anti tamper spring !

The Delivery system tube (from ad blue pump) attaches to the injector, it sits within a corrugated plastic sheath.
the delivery system has a heater element that is powered from a connector attached to the ad blue tank / controller.
The delivery line is routed over several other pipes close to the floor pan and behind a heat shield, emerging close to the drivers side under body plastics ( wrapped in heat resistant foil as it emerges) and routes to the injector.
The only wires that are exposed are on that supply, everything else is covered up by the add blue tank covers under the vehicle.

There are additional connectors and cables (covered up by the under body protection) :
#Ad blue pump fitted to the underside of the ad blue tank in the middle of a large circular projection in the tank housing. Fitted to the tank via three screws, has electrical connections
#Control unit, independent unit - sits (clipped) on top of the add blue tank has two connectors
#Supply line as above.

Signs of damage to wires or verdegree 0n connectors should be obvious and point to a potential issue, everything else not so simply to diagnose visually!

Quite honestly if you have all In, I would take it to the dealer, pay the £250 (on the understanding that they refund if the issue is warranted )
The VW dealer will plug it in, read the codes (as you have) and then arbitrarily replace the whole system (cost circa £1800 + £250 diagnostics fee)
if they claimed damage to wiring, I would want to inspect the wiring, particularly if I had check it myself beforehand.

IMO If you tamper with the system the dealer will claim. You damaged it !

Ooh. Thanks very much for this. Just had another look under. Could this be my smoking gun (see picture). I’m unfamiliar with the bits under there even after your description but is this a broken cable? Can anyone help me identify which cable it is please.
And any views whether this is the type of thing that would be excluded under All In?

The code is telling you “circuit open” so yes, it sounds like a wiring problem. If you can access those cut cable ends and repair them then you’re back in the game.

Rodent damage to Adblue wiring.
2. Options - 1.complete new wiring loom. Not cheap.
2. Repair either DIY or an Autoelectrician.

You may need VCDS or an OBD reader such as Carista or OBDeleven to reset the Dashboard error message if doing DIY. An Autoelectrician should be able to do the reset.

Once repaired use Steel wool cable wrap to cover wires or Rodent tape or both.

The cable , or lack of it is the ad blue injector - that is the source of your fault code

it cannot possibly be considered warranty because it has been damaged . (Not normal wear and tear)

You have a starting point , it may be that the cable is cut too short to the injector housing to be able to fix it. Either diy or auto elec.
the injector is clamped by a two part clamp to the exhaust via. A flange on either part. The clamp is highlighted here : single bolt to undo photo 1 red arrow)

The supply line coming into the injector has a security clip (white / opaque) that needs to be removed to allow the pipe to be removed (by sequencing the two levers moulded into the supply line end ) see second photo white arrow pointing to opaque clip embedded onto tube recess

Here is another stock photo (ebay) to assist, as you can see yours has had the fixed cable restraint and cables contained within chewed all the way through.

Can you locate the other end I.e the connector fitted to the loom


I hope that helps a bit and gives you a starting point to diagnose the issue.

Chewed wire loom and ad blue pipe. VW says this is not a problem, they sell a rodent protection gadget for £15.00, I have a bill for repairs to loom plus 2 sensors of £3000.00 plus, no problem then VW?

Looking at the cost of the part (see post above #17 ) approx £210 I would simply replace the part via a trusted garage.
Provided the loom from the van is unaffected , should simply remove old injector replace with new, run diagnostic.
Should be all good
