Electric side door conversion to fully manual?

Hello,

I am new here, I just bought a T5 California (from 2014) a month ago!
Wanna thank you guys for the help on getting my sliding door to manual mode. It's so much better than electrical, for all the reasons you mentionned!
I could not find the info anywehere else than on this forum!

I have a quick question, I found the fuse to disable the electrical door, but it does switch off the motor at the back but also the electrical lock (that helps closing the last bit).

Is that a fuse that ONLY controls the electrical motor at the back?

Thanks in advance !
Quentin

No, the 40amp fuse under the passenger seat feeds the electric sliding door module which in turn controls the “soft close” function.

You could just unplug the door motor.

How do you do that?
Unplugging the electric motor makes the door very difficult to move manually. You have to remove/ disable the drive mechanism to return the door to pure manual function.

That makes the door very heavy to move as you have to also overcome the resistance of motor and drivetrain.

Yes, thank you. I thought that sounded too easy. Someone on the Forum did a whole sequence of how to disable the door, some years ago. It required the removal of a side panel and cutting some cables.
Fortunately I copied all the info. So I may do that.

See attached.

Having said all that, when it works, it is great.

My Multivan has twin electric sliders but it also has a button to convert to manual, stopping the electric assist. They are very hard to slide in manual mode without the electric assist But Multivans without the electric sliders are much easier.

So there are some advantages in a T7 Multivan !

Our door stopped working 2 years ago so I looked into this. It isn’t easy at all and once you start cutting wires you can’t go back.
I found a fab auto electrician who fixed mine so it’s still electric.

My comment to unplug the motor was obviously AFTER you've removed the cable that the motor drives. I replaced my door cable a few years ago as I wanted it to remain electric, easy to do if you follow the videos previously mention. Without the cable the door runs freely, the motor still spins but as it's not connected to the door cable it's not functional so you could just remove the rear interior panel and unplug the motor or probably even get it coded out using VCDS.
