My 2021 Ocean dynamic road sign display suddenly stopped working, and conveniently gave me an error message in the dash. I have the all in warranty/service plan so it should be covered. . . . . But wait; a call from the dealer - we need to do a software update which “might” fix it, and unfortunately software isn’t covered by the warranty so it’ll cost £76 to connect it to the computer for half an hour. Once that’s done, if that doesn’t fix it we can have another look.
Apparently they don’t do this update to all cars, just those who might need it . . .
Now I’ve heard some bo**ocks in my time, but that’s a new one to me, looks like a long conversation with VW is in the offing.

An update: The software update took forever - and didn’t fix the problem, so booked in for more investigation: no charge for the software . . .

What was the error message displayed ?
Ours on Friday our ocean did this during the storm and very heavy wind and rain, this continued for about 20 minutes then started to work again.

When I parked the vehicle at home, the windscreen steamed up as we’d all jumped in wet through, I wonder if the camera on the inside of the windscreen was being obscured and had demisted enough on our journey to allow the camera vision again.

My partners car does this in the depths of winter but usually clears with 10 mins or so

The camera/ADAS may need recalibrating, this may be a possible cause, but why yours would go out of range or lose its calibration is slightly suspicious.

Usually things like a windscreen change, suspension height change, or wheel size /tyre profile change cause it.

Obviously the camera itself could fail & they are over £600 (I have one spare) as VWCV couldn’t sort the system on mine easily as the main dealers are poor IME when the ODIS software doesn’t lead them by the nose. Hopefully they figure yours out easily now.

At least the issue is on the system whilst you are in extended warranty, although they may still try to charge you for a recalibration…..
