I have recently noticed when under braking / decelerating from higher gears there is a noticeable clunk / jump (sounds like it coming from the front of the Van) between 4th and 3rd gear. This happens about 70% of the time and is more pronounced sometimes than other times. I have also had it infrequently when I have just started reversing from a standstill no other times though. I just wondered if anyone has had this before? I have a 2018 Cali Beach with DSG thanks James

I've had an engine mount replaced , slight knock. , it was the front, also 2018 Beach, but I don't think that's the common denominator.

I would start by checking the front Mount.
Its the one that is most loaded.

Not mine but From The T6 forum :

Here's a photo of what it looks like , you can see it fairly easily from under the van

Engine mount is easily diagnosed, just pump the throttle on and off, see if the noise repeats.
If it’s making that much noise then lifting the bonnet and pushing the engine with a pry bar will reveal all.

Can’t see how it would be gear dependant as described though? It’s either knackered or it’s not.

Not the most accurate description ever tbh.
No idea if it’s actually gearbox related or just something caused by deceleration. The reversing thing seems contradictory.

Exhaust mount failed perhaps?

Thats low....has the DSG had its 40k oil change?

Yes, ive booked it in at the garage. I think its brakes related as if I coast and the Van slows and shifts downwards without braking it doesn't make the clunking sound. Also the front left pad is rubbing and im sure the brakes are also binding as when I reverse off the drive after a bit of wheel rotation there is the same clunk coming from the front end. Will update in due course. thanks everyone

Hmmm.....should coast if you dont touch the brakes.....but one of these and measure the temp on the wheels hubs after a short drive. I've had sticking brakes on a Discovery and Outlander and this tool saves the guess work

Yep....but it takes the guess work out. I had this also on my Lates Father's L200. In the end to settle, "its near enough similiar to the others , or could be a bearing" we jacked the car up and you couldn't spin the wheel by hand. Sometimes it binding so bad its an easy spot. Sometimes its slight. My V8 was slight, the Outlander was horrendous made worse by the CVT gearbox
