Hi, just set up camp and need to charge iPhone. The Ramoska is plugged in with meal cooking away so can't use the 3-pin socket. I thought I'd be able to use the USB points - I have 2 but neither work when ignition is off. Is this normal? Thanks in advance!

If those usb's are behind the concatct they indeed will not work (and you better not use them ) without engine running.

Why don't you use the 150w plug on the Bpilar on the passegerseat.
Or the 12v socket?

My tip : charge phones while driving ....you are not using it and i uses the power from the engine.
We always plug something in when we start a trip a phone , Ipad , Ipod , chargeble light , ....
Loading up while driving.

Thanks for the advice. Never used that thing on the B pillar. Shameful - this is my 3rd Cali but I haven't got anything that would plug into there! Do other people use it?

you could get a two to three pin adaptor , should have done it when you owened the first Cali so you would still be using it .
:D

You can get a plug to fit the Inverter socket that has a USB port, or better still get a 12v USB charger for an iPhone . Plenty on eBay and Amazon.

We use a mains multi plug with USB built in on EHU for best of both worlds

Yes, but if your not on EHU not very useful:thumb

That's when a regular 12v USB charger is a must have in every vehicle Cali or not :)
We have many things that charge from USB:
2 x electric toothbrushes
2 x iPads
2 x iPhones
2 x kindles
hand held GPS receiver
2 x head torches
iPod
digital camera battery charger

It is a disappointment that our Beach has no USB charging points other than the data socket for app connect.

We have two adaptors from lighter socket to USB, one with two USB ports and one with four USB ports. Our fridge also has a USB charging port.

With solar panels installed on the roof, we charge in the daytime, not overnight.

Where would I get one of those from and what is it called please? You're quite right of course!!

USB points would in theory be easy to fit :) my Slidepod has two on and I use them a lot. Pondering putting some in the back of the leisure battery box .

Looking at the inverter socket doesn't its flap, opening upwards, limit the access to any adapters USB ports also on the top? I do like the look of the Amazon Lvsun unit and hope that it will get the thumbs up on here shortly..i.e. does it fit??

If the flap is in the way , try and take it off?
You also could try and change the two pin socket to a UK three pin and rebuild it.
Sure someone must have done this on theire UK cali...a thing i personal would change from the first day!

you have a point there .... looking at the image gallery on amazon it stands a little proud - off out to the cali with a similar plug to see if its an option!

@hotel california is spot on, there's no way one of those plugs will fit without removing the flap (and I can't see a way to do that without breaking it off) Any plug would need to have the ports pointing downwards and only a pinkie finger with above to allow the flap to be lifted when the plug is in.

Well I've got x 2 of these., 3 12v sockets and 1 standard USB.
One is plugged into the 12 v socket on the kitchen unit and the 2nd is plugged into the first. This gives me 5 x 12v sockets and 2x USB.
Into these I have plugged dedicated 12v chargers for the following-
iPad
iPhone
Android phone
Kindle
MP3 Speaker
Bluetooth Speaker
iBoost WiFi Router.
Rechargeable LED torch.

Total current usage 8 amps.

In the Inverter Socket I have a 230v 7w Insect Repellant gizmo with a European plug that fits perfectly.

Do remember that if you are using the Euro socket, to remove the whole adapter when you have finished charging your phone, not just the USB cable.

If you don't, the inverter will still remain powered and flatten the leisure batteries eventually. The inverter is switched by the prongs of the adapter and does not operate unless a plug is inserted into the socket.

No you can't. USB sockets works only with ignition on. You can use 12V sockets always on with 12V USB charger. My recommendation is Belkin.
