Advice on which Cali!

Just so I get my head around this. Say I put down £15k deposit on a £68k Cali, and I end up spending £350 per month over 4 years (£16800) bringing my expenditure to £32kish. In any circumstance from that point where I decide to give the van back, I've essentially paid £32k to use it for four years?

Im considering new because I think I will want it for long term and its likely to depreciate slowly (hopefully..)

Now I wish I hadn’t mentioned the option of handing the van back under a PCP agreement, it’s gave you a bad idea.
See example below, albeit a Coast, but you can see your monthly payments would be way more than £350 a month. Also the interest, which is on the full amount borrowed adds £9,000 to the total price paid.

I have a well meant suggestion. Two kids and you say prospect of another and a dog. Why not get the best people carrier type thing with 6 seat belts you can get for £15,000.
No monthly outlay, it’s yours bought and paid for outright.
Go day trips round beautiful Northumbria, rent a static now and then for holidays. or buy a big tent.
It’s not the same as having a Campervan but it’s one helluva a lot cheaper.

Thanks for the advice. I went and had a look yesterday at the various VW options, and we decided that the Cali is probably not the right option for us right now. We are however extremely tempted by the Multivan for the reasons you just said. Except, as you also said - spending £50-60k on one v an older people carrier for much less, feels like a luxury. We can afford it but I am not generally a spenny person! We are tempted to get a new multi on PCP, with the plan on keeping it til the kids are teenagers. Tough decision!

By the way, if you do go multivan, there seem to be plenty of kits to support a mattress in the back and you can get blackout blinds for all the windows

If you do go for a Multivan, LWB or SWB , consider the Conference Pack Option.
It means the middle row of seats can be rotated to face the rear row of 3 seats and you can set the table between them. Could be useful.

Thanks for the replies. Really useful stuff to know.

I think I am stuck between wanting something that will be practical day to day now with less camping (multivan + tent if we want to camp), or a do it all that may be better in the future (thinking 6.1 beach).

Time to get to a van centre I think!
This might not be a popular suggestion on here…….. but have a look at the Kia PV5………. Of course it does mean going electric……..

Yeah I like this when I saw it yesterday. At least means we can sit in the back with the kids / table with doors open etc, and use it on day trips. Kit for bed etc in future might be cool too.
