Ad Blue question

Hi, I'm buying my first California and have seen a 2017 2.0 TDI BlueMotion Tech Ocean. Can you tell me if this would ned Ad Blue please? I've read online that it does, and also that it doesn't (?) I've also read somewhere that you should avoid vans that need Ad Blue? Thanks

Euro 6 engines use ad blue. Just put it in when the vehicle calls for it. It isn't a big deal.
Older euro 5 engines don't use ad blue. You will be charged in cities around UK and Europe if you don't have, a modern euro 6 engine. It is there for environmental reasons.
Why does the article suggest avoiding ad blue and is the source, a reliable one?

I have started using it after reading some of the posts about failed sensors and other issues with the ad blue system such as not registering fill or counting down rapidly etc and the repair costs (replacement) £££££££.

No issues after the first tank full

The manual states, Quote: Never add water, fuel or additives to the AdBlue.

Always do as if you are low mileage then it can crytallize. No issues in the last 20000 miles with Wynnes for me.

Anyone use Costco AdBlue? Its branded Redex, so figure it should be good....not that trusting of my local garage's pump for AdBlue.....

Water will throw up a "quality" fault

Fuel would damage the system and throw a fault. This would be considered mis fueling , I does happen and I'm sure VW will spank the customer with a massive bill to rectify.

Additives , its easier to say No because of the plethora of additives available, VW can't possibly test , therefore it's a cover all.

Use additives specifically for the reason they are designed to be used for and at the specific dosing application rate, I'm confident there should be no issue.

Has anyone heard from any one anywhere where they used add blue additives, at the correct dosing rate and subsequently experience an issue from using the additives ?

Wynns ET AT EL would find themselves with court action if there was evidence that the additives actual did harm!

As always DYOR and make your own mind up, for now I'll try the preventative route rather than the remedial one once there is an issue.
