Hi, had the Wagon for a year now. A couple of months ago i discovered its famous....

I’ll bite, why.

Go on then…..don’t leave me hanging, let me guess…….trumps tour bus :bananadance2

Not sure if I can post the link to The Deacon Trust but there is a 1hr film about the journey. It surprisingly held together really well and still drives spot on.
That’s very cool.
Google and YouTube I guess

Hope you enjoy the film, I had mixed emotions when I found out It had crossed African deserts and jungles. Kind of explains the red dust everywhere. But now me and the misses like the van even more. Its the coolest transporter we've ever owned......

The film is really powerful and well worth watching - we watched it last night. Great to now own the vehicle that did the trip and raised awareness of Parkinson’s in that part of the world. It is the trips and stories behind them that make our Calis such superb vehicles IMHO and your vehicle has got one of the best stories behind it I’ve ever heard. Enjoy the red dust.

Would the moderators like to move this post to general discussion to get the story out there, just an idea...

It was previously owned by Guy Deacon CBE. The Cali was used for a parkinsons awareness 18000 mile trip across Africa.

Wow! That’s incredible. Testamant to the Van that it did all that

Thanks everyone for showing an interest. I recently purchased the book which is an amazing read. Im not trying to promote in anyway but if anyone's interested the books called Running on Empty, and 50% of the cost of the book goes directly to the Deacon Foundation to support Parkinsons charities.

Having personally raced a motorcycle competitively through Europe, across Africa to Dakar, Senegal and worked in Gabon, Nigeria and South Africa I think I would feel concerned about the transparency of the vendor if I had purchased this particular California without at least knowing its immediate history...........

Yes good point, I best clear that up. I purchased the vehicle from a mobility vehicle dealer. He took it in part exchange for a wheelchair adapted vw caddy. If there was any transparency involved it would be the dealer, we'll let's just say he was very economical with the truth by stating it may have been offroad a few times. Im not bothered in the slightest I paid a well under what it was worth and over the moon with the Cali.

peteT30,
Good on you. In fairness I am thinking of a very similar 4Motion purchase myself, so all understood.
Besides fine dust entering everywhere, my experiences have been suspension components have taken the brunt of rough roads, and the price of a new set of shocks and some bushes will not be too difficult.Other than that, light bodywork paint damage from tougher trackside bushes etc.
Be well,
Sean
