Main switch for ACC

My ACC doesn’t seem to be working all of a sudden. It just says “ACC Deactivated”. When I try to activate it using the controls on the steering wheel it asks me to use the “main switch”. I can’t find this anywhere and my wife spent half an hour with the manual. Where is the main switch? How do I fix this? I feel almost certain that I’m missing something really obvious.
By the way, there was a thread similar to this a few years ago and the OP was advised to drive faster than 30 mph to make it work. This doesn’t work for me.
One thing I will check in the morning is that the sensor isn’t dirty. I’ve done a lot of miles in France over the last couple of days and the windscreen is covered in insect sludge. I know the sensor is somewhere around the VW badge at the front, but I’m not exactly sure where? Or, how to access it to clean it.
Grateful for your thoughts.

The sensor is a black square below the VW badge.
On my Multivan there is a Resume and Set button but beside the Resume button there is another button that allows you to switch On the ACC function.
Do you have something similar?

On T6, the Main Switch for ACC is this one. Sometimes if we leave the van running without moving it to demist etc, it can state the system is deactivated when I go to use it next and pressing this activates it

It’s a bit different on the T6.1.IMG_1559.jpeg
I’ve always used these steering wheel controls as the ‘main switch’, but using these controls are what prompted the request to use the main switch. I thought that there must be something buried in the central control panel / computer interface thingy.

Same as on Multivan.
Press switch to the R of the ACC RES button. Should show Driver Aids selected. Is ACC ticked?

Ah yes. Thanks. Found it. For some reason I was expecting it to be behind the badge/grill somewhere. I’ll give it a clean and report back after we’ve done a few miles this evening.
Mine very occasionally has a wobble, turn off and on or sometimes needs an engine off and on to reset. Winter when I have more issues when the sensors covered in snow, a quick clean normally works. It’s a god send on at reducing stress on summer highland roads following a hire car, no prospect of an overtake, doing 40mph, weaving and random braking, I encounter one most weeks.
