Re. The latest shenanigans, how much is this going to affect your plans? Previously booked or in the near future. Fuel prices are becoming ridiculous, and if it carries on shortages will follow.
Such a shame as I’m reconsidering my Euro trip now. Plus pretty sure we’ll see a profiteering hike in uk rates..

Price is one thing but shortages have me a little concerned about our Euro trip end of April. Reality at the moment is there is no shortage but panic buying is causing short term localised supply issues. No help if you’re deep in Germany and need to get home.

Two weeks ago I didn’t see it as a big issue, but now things are becoming concerning.

Even wondering about annual Scotland trip in a few weeks time - mostly supply but cost is getting ridiculous and seemingly pretty variable across the country.

We’re due to start our Scotland trip in a couple of weeks, would be disastrous to get up there and not be able to get back.

Exactly. Without fuel they can’t rip us off can they!

We are off on a European road trip end of April down to Croatia with several stops along the way down and back up. There are no petrol shortages so far in Europe though you pay a higher price. Slovenia has a limit of 50 litres but that is mainly due to Austrians coming over the border and filling up with cheaper fuel apparently. I might bring my work laptop and extend the holiday if there is a shortage as I normally work from home. I was thinking that being stuck in Croatia may not be too bad at all. Famous last words.... I will post on our travels and with updates on any fuel issues.

We are heading off to France at the end of August for a month, so am really hoping all this will be over by then and back to some sort of normality…. whatever that looks like with Mr Trump at the helm!

We are heading to Germany in May and other than the fact that we will be paying more for fuel, I'm not overly concerned.

Shortages aside, we can't predict that, but we can probably agree that the price gouging will continue! We did circa 4,000Km around Europe last July, and the average price per litre was €1.64, giving a total fuel bill of €557.95. So as pchmlk said above, it's probably just about cost.

If the average cost doubles to €3.28, which may be pessimistic considering that it is now just under €2.20 here in Ireland, our government having reduced duty to lower the pump price, and others are looking at this, or have done so too. So on that calculation the trip would cost €1,115, an extra €557.
It could have been done cheaper just by lifting the right foot a little bit, I was enjoying the power in the Alps and on the Autobahns!

Enjoy your trips, don't let this take from it!

Just using the hybrid more...fuel is minor compared to the knock costs of higher energy and transport that will follow on down the line....

Spot on analysis. So, could be an extra €557 diesel cost on a 4,000km trip. I can live with that, or avoid it.
We are off after Easter, loose plan head for Southern Spain, Alpujarras maybe, 4,000km probably about right.
But we are not committed. Maybe just go as far as the Costa Brava and use a lot less diesel. Or just pooter about Normandy and Brittany and use not a lot of diesel at all. And save on tolls as well. The choice is ours.
Only thing certain is we are going. ORANGE MANIAC WILL NOT KEEP US AT HOME.

Price is a pain but for my big holiday of the year I will just have to lump it! Luckily I work in a global role so speak to French and Germans all day long. Currently they have same as us I.e. higher prices no real shortages. I will be sounding them out before we head for France end of April. Will probably still go but my behaviour would change I.e fill up every opportunity!

THat is my intent as well. Keep it full along the way just in case. If all else fails work from the van on the beach.. with a beer..The extra cost I will just have to put up with.

On the flip side prescription charges have been frozen, and free breakfast clubs should help.......

Is that effectively panic buying?

I've stopped. Pleasantly surprised when the credit card bill was only £3098 for last month (had to question that figure because at £3980 it still would have been a low month)

Germany today. On the autobahn 2.71 eu. Around £2.43 a litre. Fill up in uk. Amazingly £1.80 is a sodding bargain. No signs of any shortages or panic buying
