Does anyone know definitively what the payload is on a T7 California Ocean hybrid? For camping use it will just be my wife and I. However, two or three times a year it will be family transport to an apartment in the Alps taking my wife and I, two adult size teens and a dog. Total weight maybe 320kgs. I am sure I read somewhere that payload on the hybrid is under 300kgs. If that’s true I do wonder if its a no go for us and we might have to get a diesel.

about 100kg less than non Phev
only looked at the Ocean as that should be worst case

In case it is not obvious click on the info on the engine selection and look under weights.

For some reason the uk site is showing up with blanks at the moment but on the German site you can work out the payload from the weights in the engine spec for the Phev. https://www.volkswagen-nutzfahrzeug...MVBK1T9&modelVersion-app=0&modelYear-app=2026

2980kg total permissible weight
2650kg with driver (75kg and full fuel tank)
leaves 330kg payload as far as I can see

That might be just enough. I’m 85kgs so I use up 10kgs leaving 320kgs. My son is also 85kgs, daughter 65kgs and my wife 58kgs, dog is 20kgs so after that we are left with 92kgs for luggage, snacks etc. Hopefully that’s enough but it’s still feels a bit tight.

I must say this does seem like quite close if a family with two adults and two teenagers set off for a trip with a full water tank and all the gubbins you’d need for a week away (drive off awning, toilet, food etc etc). I’m not super clear on this but won’t the full water tank eat 30kg straight away?

Yes it would be but with the whole family on board we will only be using it as a car heading to a holiday apartment we have in France. We won’t have loads of stuff and water tank unlikely to be in service. For actual camping trips it will just be my wife and I plus dog. No worries about that.

Sorry if I appear thick.
I've read through and still can't make out what out weight allowance is for our kit etc.
T7 hybrid ocean.

Is it 300kg ?
Thank you

Not a lot at 309kg.

75kg driver and 90% fuel within unladen weight figure. That is a standard build, so options may increase unladen weight

That’s starting to cut it fine. Is it possible to up plate the T7 phev?

On my GC680 I was able to get SV Tech to re register it at 4.2t instead of the original 3.88t. It was only a paperwork exercise, no hardware needed changing. I wonder if you could talk to them and see if you can do the same?

That shouldn’t be allowed to be registered.
The minimum payload to get a CoC is 75kg per passenger seat + 10kg per M length of van + 10kg per seat.
The vw configurator for the GC was strict about meeting that and wouldn’t let you register a van that didn’t comply.

Are you sure?
According to your calculation the Minimum Payload for the CoC is:

4 x 75 =300 kgm
10 x 4 seats = 40 kgm
10 x 5 m vehicle length = 50 Kgm

Grand total = 390 kgm

The Payload calculated by @pjm-84 of 309 Kgm excludes the driver 75 Kgm and 90% fuel approximately 40 Kgm

Grand total = 424 Kgm.

So over the minimum requirements for the CoC

Yes I am sure - @pjm-stated correctly stated 309kg according to the printed figures.

The calculation if you read the words carefully is:
3x75 kg for passengers = 225kg
4x10kg for luggage per person = 40kg
5x10Kg for the length of van = 50kg
I make that a minimum of 315kg required v the 309 kg stated.

The 75kg for driver and fuel load is included in the vehicles figures, and is not part of the payload figure.

So the 309 Kgm includes 90% fuel and your CoC calculation doesn’t?

Crumbs.....VW has dropped a clanger....

Specced up one....so payload is down to 250.7kg

Max gross weight2,980 kg
Vehicle and driver weight2,729.297

I don’t understand what you are trying to say - the vehicle weight includes fuel and driver - the minimum payload calculation is what is required over and above the vehicle weight.

But would vw let you order one like that?

Just trying to understand whether the weight requirements for a CoC , as mentioned by you, includes Fuel or not. I see it ignores the Driver .

Yep....just a towbar / fire extinguisher + 19in wheel option....

To put this into context the payload in our BMW X545e is 640 to 715kg...depending on build options. To achieve this the BMW is plated to 3150kg
